AA Baseball
AA Baseball is the first division after Tee Ball. It is for players League Age 7 and 8.
The AA Division starts as coach pitch, and players begin pitching during the season. It focuses on teaching players to hit and field.
AA games are played on weeknights and weekends. Weeknight games start at 5:30 PM.
There are generally two AA Baseball games per week.
Younger players should sign up for Tee Ball in the Falmouth Little League Baseball program.
AA Baseball Rules
Official Little League rules apply, except for the Falmouth rules below.
Falmouth rules: game play
-
No official score or standings.
-
Coaches pitch to their own team, except as listed under player pitch. There are no walks.
-
Every player plays in the field.
-
Every player bats once each inning. When the whole team has batted, the teams switch.
-
A batter or runner who is put out goes back to the bench. After 3 outs in an inning, the bases are cleared, and the rest of the lineup still bats.
-
Runners may move up only one base on an overthrow, or when a ball hit to the outfield comes back to the infield.
-
No leading off or stealing.
Falmouth rules: player pitch
-
Games 1 to 4: coaches pitch.
-
Games 5 to 7: players pitch in 1 or 2 innings of each game. From game 8 on, a player starts every at bat.
-
A player pitches no more than 1 inning a game. After 4 balls or a hit batter, the batter's coach pitches.
-
Before a game, the 2 head coaches may agree to use less player pitching.
Falmouth rules: positions
-
Coaches rotate every player through infield and outfield positions as evenly as possible over the season, except catcher.
-
No player has to catch unless they want to.
-
If this rotation isn't happening on your child's team, email info@falmouthlittleleague.net.
Falmouth rules: time and equipment
-
No new inning starts more than 1 hour 45 minutes after the scheduled start time. Once an inning starts, both halves are played.
-
The league provides game balls.
Reminders from the official rules
-
Batters, runners, and youth base coaches wear batting helmets.
-
Catchers wear a helmet, mask, throat guard, chest protector, and shin guards.
-
All boys wear an athletic supporter. Boys who catch wear a cup.
-
No on-deck batter. Only the batter holds a bat. In the dugout, no player holds a bat until it's their turn.
-
No head-first slides, except when going back to a base. A runner who slides head first is out.
League policies
-
No climbing on dugout benches or fences. Coaches watch for this at all times.
-
Parents, siblings, and friends stay out of the dugouts.
-
If something is unsafe, coaches fix it before play goes on.
-
Closed fields: the Town of Falmouth or the league board closes fields, and coaches must follow the closure. Closures are posted on the town website and emailed when possible.
